Congratulations to the students who have returned to school this term, ‘ready to learn’. I appreciate the support of parents in preparing their children for school and having those positive conversations that set students up for success. Our PB4L behaviour data supports this with only a small number of ‘highs’ and ‘lows’ recorded in the last fortnight. On the morning of 20 August, we will hold a parent information and feedback session to unpack SCNV’s behaviour management processes and the procedures for following up using reflective practices of restorative justice. At the parent session, we will also be giving feedback from the TTFM survey results and giving time for parents to give more information to our school improvement process and goals.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS 4 LEARNING (PB4L)
Positive reinforcement and the acknowledgement of appropriate behaviours and positive achievements are the first and most fundamental elements of the PB4L framework.
This could include:
- Verbal reinforcement and affirmation
- Class/School Award System
- Achievements recorded and communicated to parents
In the instance the students demonstrate or display behaviours that do not align to the overarching school's rules of we are respectful, we are responsible, we are safe and we are learners the school classifies their behaviour into four categories:
Low Behaviours: Classroom - classroom teacher/general staff to address
Low Behaviours: Playground - Staff member to address behaviour with students
Mini High Behaviours - These behaviours occur after three low behaviours within a two week period.
High Behaviours - This behaviour is determined by a member of the school leadership team. A Leadership Team member will address this behaviour with the support of other appropriate staff.
To determine the support and response, our teachers use a correction sequence with the intention to redirect and support student behaviour. To determine the response to behaviours, we utilise low and high behaviour definitions.
NAPLAN
Parents of children in Year Three and Year Five will have received their NAPLAN results, and we as a school team are impressed with the growth and the positive trajectory across most areas. With our annual improvement goal of ‘all students will be challenged to achieve expected growth in Mathematics, ’ it was important to see that the work and effort are evident in the growth across Year Three and Year Five over the last three years. Year Three outperformed in all areas, both diocesan and national means. Year Five outperformed the national mean in all areas. In reading, writing and numeracy, in excess of 70% of students achieved strong or exceeding. In writing, for Year 3, 92% students achieved strong or exceeding. Congratulations to our students and teachers.
Staffing Announcements
This term, we welcomed Mr Luke Daniels to the position of classroom teacher for Year 4 White, Mrs Diana Nagy to the position of indentured Casual, and we welcomed back Mrs Wynn to classroom support across Kindergarten and Year Two. We also farewelled Mrs Begovich, who has started her parental leave. We look forward to her new baby announcement later this term.
Congratulations to Mrs and Mr Hastie
who welcomed baby ‘Lani Blair’ into their family,
a sister for Koda.
Principal Appraisal
Within our Diocese of Wollongong, Principals engage in an appraisal process every four years. This will be my second appraisal in my time at St Clare’s Catholic Parish Primary School. My formalised appraisal will be held on Tuesday, 23 September. In the lead-up, staff and parents will have the opportunity to engage in a survey as a part of my appraisal process. I will distribute a survey in the coming weeks to seek further feedback. Some parents will have the opportunity to have a phone conversation with a panel member on the day of the appraisal. If you would like to be considered for this opportunity, please contact me to let me know.
Yours in partnership,
Marg Foldes
Principal
Regular Attendance
As we journey through the school year, I want to take a moment to highlight the importance of consistent school attendance. Each day in the classroom is an opportunity for our children to grow not just in knowledge, but in character, responsibility, and community. Just as regular worship strengthens our faith, regular attendance strengthens their foundation for learning and life.
The Catholic Education Office has developed helpful materials for parents that offer guidance and support around attendance.
- Arrive to Thrive Responsibilities of Parents Fact Sheet
- Arrive to Thrive My Child Won't Go to School Fact Sheet
- Arrive to Thrive Attendance Communication and Monitoring Fact Sheet
If you are experiencing any challenges in this area, please don’t hesitate to reach out. At times, St Clare’s may contact you to discuss your son or daughter’s attendance—not as a criticism, but as a way of working together to ensure your child is supported in attending school frequently and regularly.
Standing Strong Program – Building Confident, Respectful Learners
St Clare’s continues its valued partnership with CatholicCare to deliver a targeted wellbeing program for students in Year 3 and Year 4. This term, students in these grades will take part in weekly sessions with their class as part of the Standing Strong program.
Standing Strong is a dynamic social and emotional learning program designed for children aged 8–12. Through engaging and interactive activities, students will explore what makes them unique, understand how emotions influence their choices, and develop practical tools for navigating friendships and resolving conflicts.
The program supports students in building emotional awareness, setting healthy boundaries, developing respectful communication, and finding the confidence to stand strong in challenging situations. At its heart, Standing Strong empowers young people to embrace their individuality, foster self-respect, and grow into resilient, confident learners.
Scheduled Fire Compliance Works
Please take time to review the communication below that was shared with our community in relation to urgent works that need to occur between Wednesday 6 August - Tuesday 12 August. During this time there will be impacts to our school car park.
Car Park Protocols
A friendly reminder about our carpark protocols to ensure a smooth and safe drop-off and pick-up for everyone.
-
No Right Turn: To help traffic flow smoothly and prevent backups, please remember there is a "no right turn" sign when exiting the car park during the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
-
Give Way to Pedestrians: Please be mindful of pedestrians crossing at the school gate. Cars must give way to anyone on foot when entering or exiting the driveway.
-
Respect Our Neighbours: When parking on the streets surrounding the school, please be respectful of residents and ensure you do not block their driveways.
-
Disabled Parking: There are two designated disabled parking spots in our car park. Please only use these spaces if you have a valid permit clearly displayed on your vehicle.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe!
Grade Newsletters
To keep you informed and involved in your child’s learning, we have prepared curriculum newsletters for each grade that outline the key areas of learning and focus for Term 3. These newsletters provide an overview of the topics your child will be exploring, along with any important information for the term.
Please find the Term 3 curriculum newsletters linked below for each grade:
Mr Joel Jarrett
Assistant Principal
Year 6 Mass with the Bishop
On Tuesday 29 July, our Year 6 leaders attended Mass with Bishop Brian Mascord at St Thomas Aquinas, Bowral. The day was a wonderful celebration of faith by all who attended. Our Year 6 were joined by their peers from St Paul's Camden, St Anthony's Picton, St Michael's Mittagong, St Paul's Moss Vale, and St Thomas Aquinas Bowral.
St Clare's Feast Day
We will be celebrating St Clare’s Feast Day on Wednesday, 13th August. This is a very special date on the St Clare's calendar as we reflect on the importance of who St Clare was and why she is so important to our school.
We will be attending Mass at St Paul’s Church at 11:15 am. Parents/carers are welcome to join us however, please be aware that there may be limited seating available.
After Mass, parents/carers are welcome to join their children for a picnic lunch (or sausage sizzle provided by the P & F for staff and students) back at school from 1:00-1:30 pm. After lunch, there will be an opportunity for parents to visit their child’s classroom and learn more about St Clare. At the afternoon dismissal, there will be a short presentation on the stage by some of our Kindergarten students.
Celebrating our Grandparents
The Feast Day of Saints Joachim and Anne was on 26 July. They were the parents of Mary and the grandparents of Jesus. At this time, we pray for the grandparents in our community, may they continue to be a source of great wisdom and guidance to us.
Grandparents Day is also celebrated later on in the year at St Clare’s on 31 October. It is a special occasion that celebrates grandparents, elders, grand-friends, relatives, and those who generally take on the role of a grandparent or elder within their family or community. We will share further information on this as the date gets closer.
Lord God almighty, bless our grandparents with long life, happiness, and health. May they remain constant in your love and be living signs of your presence to their children and grandchildren.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week.
Mrs Jennifer English
Religious Education Coordinator
St Clare's Prayer Box
Last year at St Clare’s, we introduced a Family Prayer Box for families to use in their homes. It is so wonderful to see members of our St Clare’s school community taking the Prayer Boxes home and using them to share moments of faith and prayer together as a family. Praying together strengthens family bonds and deepens your relationship with God, supporting your child's spiritual growth and your connection to faith. Thank you to the beautiful families who have sent through some photos of the prayer space set up in our homes.
The box includes a white cloth, coloured ribbons, a flameless candle, a cross, prayers, and a workbook for personal reflections. To set it up, simply cover the box with the cloth, arrange the ribbons based on the Liturgical season, and add the candle, cross, and prayers. Feel free to include a family photo or a flower to make it personal.
We would love to see your home prayer space set up! Please feel free to share a photo by sending it to info@scnvdow.catholic.edu.au so we can celebrate it with the wider community.
Kind regards,
Miss Ally Carter

Updated Price List
Each year, the Department of Education and Training conducts the Non-Government Schools Census to determine a school’s entitlement to recurrent funding and to fulfil national student reporting requirements. Recurrent funding is calculated on a per-student basis, so it is essential that schools submit accurate and complete Census data to remain eligible for funding for the current calendar year.
The upcoming Census will be held on Friday 1 August 2025. This Census is a critical requirement for the release of Government Per Capita Recurrent funding, which is distributed via Catholic Schools NSW.
The Census process includes the collection and use of certain information about your school, its staff and the student body for reporting to the Australian Government.
Any personal information collected in the Census and NCCD is protected by law under the Privacy Act 1988 (CTH) (Privacy Act), and any use or disclosure of that personal information must be in accordance with the Privacy Act, the Act and Regulations, and any other applicable laws.
This information was advised through Compass on Thursday 24 July.
CONTACT DETAILS
For extended absences (of more than 5 school days) due to travel, parents must submit the Notification of Extended Absence form along with relevant travel documentation. This documentation should include: Dates, locations of travel, purpose and reasons for travel outside school holidays.
We are pleased to announce the launch of a new online Notification of Extended Absence form. This user-friendly form simplifies the process for parents, eliminating the need for printing or downloading documents. Now, parents can conveniently complete the application entirely online.
Parents can also notify multiple schools simultaneously with a single upload of supporting documents. Parents are also required to notify your school if their student has siblings attending other CEDoW schools.
How This Benefits Parents
If you wish to apply for an extended absence, please email the office on info@scnvdow.catholic.edulau and a link will be sent to you or if you add the absence in notes on Compass and it is over 5 days - it will automatically direct you to the link.
The URL for the new online form is https://forms.dow.catholic.edu.au/to/yVv9DA.
Acknowledgement of Extended Absence
After considering the explanation for the extended absence the school will issue an Acknowledgement of Extended Absence to the parent, regardless of whether the
explanation for the absence is accepted or not accepted by the Principal. The acknowledgment may include agreed matters relating to the student’s learning and well-being. Accepted extended absences will be recorded as explained and unaccepted absences will be recorded as unjustified.

Infants Sports Carnival - Monday 25 August (new date)
On Monday 25 August, all students from Kindergarten to Year 2 will be participating in the Infant's Sports Carnival, which will begin at 11:00 am at Liquidamber Reserve.
Parents are warmly invited to attend and are encouraged to park at Liquidamber Reserve. Please note that access to the oval must not be via the school grounds.
Students may come to school on the day dressed in a T-shirt in their house colour, along with their regular sports shorts, shoes, and hat. Please attach a safety pin to your child’s shirt, which will be used to display their age group and house colour badge.
Throughout the carnival, students will rotate through approximately 8 fun, tabloid-style events in their age groups. Parents are welcome to walk around with their child’s group to watch and cheer them on. The focus of the day is on participation and enjoyment.
At the conclusion of the tabloid events we will have a toddler race, where younger siblings can have a turn at racing! Following the toddler race, parents are welcome to enjoy a picnic with your child and family. For the safety of our students with allergies, we ask that you do not invite other students to share your picnic food.
