Last week, Year 6 students had the opportunity to represent St. Clare's at two significant events. The Mass for Mary of the Cross MacKillop's Feast Day at the Cathedral, and the Annual Campbelltown Catholic Club Mass. It was a privilege to attend the Mass for Mary of the Cross MacKillop's Feast Day, with Mrs English, James and Zanthe. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Brian at St Francis Xavier Cathedral.
Last Sunday, Jaxson and Bradley attended the Annual Campbelltown Catholic Club Mass. The students represented St. Clare's with the maturity and respect that are hallmarks of our Year 6 cohort. Today at assembly, we conferred the Year 6 students who are in Government for the remainder of this year. They were presented with their badges by the students in Opposition.
St Clare is the patroness of our school, and her charism guides us as a school community. St Clare’s charism includes a deep relationship with Christ and contemplative prayer. Each afternoon as we gather for prayer before dismissal, we are invited into gratitude for the day and the people we shared it with.
Where else do we find a time and place for prayer in our day?
As a leader, Clare's humility and compassion fostered a strong sense of unity and love within her community. This reminds us of our call to create a welcoming and supportive environment for one another, becoming "vessels of God's compassionate love for others" in our daily interactions.
Where in each day do we show this compassionate love to someone?
St Clare had an unwavering trust in God, and by her life she teaches us that our contemplation should lead to active service and love for others.
Together, we strive to ‘form hearts and minds to make a difference'. We do this through prayer, following the teachings of Jesus and in our daily relationships with each other.
On Wednesday, we celebrated our Feast Day with Mass at St. Paul’s Church in Camden. The students entered with such reverence, and their responses and singing were beautiful. I was immensely proud of how our community gathered in such a meaningful way. Within his homily, Father James spoke of how each piece in a stained glass window is unique and, when placed together, creates a magnificent image that allows the sun to shine through. Each person within our community is also unique, and together we are the special community of St. Clare's. We are encouraged to let God shine through us for all to see.
This wonderful celebration continued with a picnic lunch, back at school. A huge thank you to our volunteers who stayed at school to prepare lunch for students and staff. And to all the parents and family members who joined us for lunch and open classrooms, thank you for creating such a wonderful, vibrant atmosphere. We finished the day with a dramatisation of the life of St. Clare by our Kindergarten students. A special thank you to Mrs. English and Miss Carter for their preparations for the Feast Day.
We are buzzing with excitement for our upcoming musical, "Hansom and Petal." Many families have already purchased their tickets, and we can't wait for you to see what our talented students and staff have created. I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the staff who consistently go above and beyond, ensuring our students are supported in every way. Thanks to Mrs. McLaughlin and Mrs. Lowe for leading the musical team of talented and dedicated staff and students. I am also grateful to the parents who have been helping to prepare and create props for the musical; your time and efforts are deeply appreciated.
Yours in partnership,

St Clare's Feast Day Celebration Reflections
It was a true joy and privilege to be part of my first St Clare Feast Day celebrations. From the reverent and uplifting Mass that brought our community together in prayer, to the joyful family picnics that filled the grounds with laughter and connection, every moment reflected the spirit of unity and gratitude. Visiting the open classrooms allowed me to witness the creativity, hard work and pride our students and staff bring to their learning every day. The highlight for me was the heartwarming dramatisation of St Clare’s story by our Kindergarten students – a beautiful and simple reminder of faith, courage and joy through the eyes of our youngest learners. It was a day that truly embodied the values of our school and the legacy of St Clare.
Uniform Matters
At St Clare’s, we strongly believe that uniform is another way of creating unity within our community. As a community, correctly wearing the uniform at all times represents respect for ourselves, pride in our school, and a shared commitment to the values that bind us together.
Please ensure that as parents we are familiar with our uniform policy that can be found in our 2025 parent handbook linked here. Please be mindful of the key points below:
- Staff will monitor the wearing of uniform on a day-to-day basis and inappropriate dress will be brought to the attention of the student/parent by the class teacher
- If the uniform matter is ongoing the Assistant Principal will be informed and a uniform communication slip will be sent home
We ask that parents are mindful of some of the following items that are current within our uniform policy:
- Hair should not extend to cover the eyes or touch the shirt collar
- Hair should be pulled/pinned back if it covers the eyes or touches the shirt collar.
- Hair is required to be its natural colour
- Hair styles should be moderate with no extremes such as to draw the attention of others or invite comment (for example undercuts, steps or shaved lines within the hair)
- Nail polish/acrylic nails or similar are not to be worn to school
- Jewellery should be kept to a minimum - watches, chains and religious symbols to be worn under the uniform
- Girls one pair of small earrings (studs or sleepers) in the ear lobe, no coloured or multiple earrings.
- Boys must wear a clear spacer if they have an ear piercing.
Upcoming Parent Information and Feedback Session
On Wednesday, 20 August at 8:30 am, St Clare’s Catholic Primary School will be hosting a Parent Information and Feedback Session in the school hall.
This session will provide the school leadership team with the opportunity to:
- Share an overview of the recent Tell Them From Me (TTFM) survey results,
- Gather additional feedback or further insights from parents in relation to the information collected through the TTFM survey,
- Revisit the school’s processes for PB4L (Positive Behaviours for Learning) and Behaviour Management.

Grade Liturgies
Throughout Semester 2, all grades will be participating in grade liturgies. Familes are invited to be a part of these special occasions and it is a wonderful way for our students to celebrate their faith and their learning in Religious Education.
The Assumption of Mary – Mother of God and Our Mother
Today, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this day, we remember our belief that at the end of her earthly life, Mary was taken body and soul into heaven. The Assumption reminds us of the special place Mary holds in God’s plan—she is not only the Mother of Jesus, but also our Mother, who continues to care for and pray for each of us.
Mary’s life shows us what it means to say “yes” to God with trust and love. She stayed close to Jesus through both joy and suffering, and she invites us to do the same. As we celebrate this feast day, we are encouraged to turn to Mary in prayer, asking her to help us live with faith, hope, and love each day.
Wishing everyone a peaceful weekend ahead.
Regards,
Mrs Jennifer English
Religious Education Coordinator
St Clare's Prayer Box
Last year at St Clare’s, we introduced a Family Prayer Box for families to use in their homes. It is so wonderful to see members of our St Clare’s school community taking the Prayer Boxes home and using them to share moments of faith and prayer together as a family. Praying together strengthens family bonds and deepens your relationship with God, supporting your child's spiritual growth and your connection to faith. Thank you to the beautiful families who have sent through some photos of the prayer space set up in our homes.
The box includes a white cloth, coloured ribbons, a flameless candle, a cross, prayers, and a workbook for personal reflections. To set it up, simply cover the box with the cloth, arrange the ribbons based on the Liturgical season, and add the candle, cross, and prayers. Feel free to include a family photo or a flower to make it personal.
We would love to see your home prayer space set up! Please feel free to share a photo by sending it to info@scnvdow.catholic.edu.au so we can celebrate it with the wider community.
Kind regards,
Miss Ally Carter
